Bus Lanes

A bus lane is a dedicated lane that serves a community with a lot of bus traffic. This could be the location of a major school, or other need for a lot of buses to serve. The bus lane can go in the opposite direction of the traffic if the roadway is 1 way. However, the bus lane will be one lane only. Bus lanes will display a red color, and the phrase Buses Only.

A county is not required to have a bus lane, and this will depend on the demand of traffic for buses to allow KTA to determine which lanes will be bus lanes. However, they must work with the city or community in where the bus lane will be located. Once a bus lane is defined, then installation of stations, and red marking will commence. Bus lanes can also be on both sides of a two way road, therefore assuring that the bus system will have a faster way to bypass heavy traffic which will eventually encourage people to take public transit which is a good thing not only for KTA, but the environment as well.
